The Perfect Fit: Determining the Optimal Number of Units to Develop in a Market to Maximize Revenue, Increase Market Share, and Minimize Encroachment Concerns
Presented by
Every company struggles with the issue of market optimization. Developing too few units leaves gaps for competitors to exploit, but too many units
leads to encroachment concerns and financial instability. This session will demonstrate case studies from firms such as Ace Hardware, Sears Dealer
Stores, Mr. Gatti's Pizza, DeVry University, and others that have employed the use of advanced statistical modeling within a GIS interface to
create client-driven solutions for the critical issue of optimal unit development. You will leave this session with a definitive understanding
of how turn the historically reactive endeavor of real estate development into a highly strategic, proactive process that ensures continued success
for your business in a highly competitive marketplace.
What you will learn
- What market optimization means to several Fortune 500 companies and how that might effect your definition of it.
- The business process needed for successfully integrating statistical models with user-friendly GIS systems to make your new models actionable in every day decision-making.
- How to assess your corporate data assets for their value now and how to identify what types of data your business might need to consider collecting for better planning.

Workshop 02 - Oracle |
Integrated Location Data, Processes and Business Intelligence Applications
Presented by Justin Lokitz of
In the IT world, location information is ubiquitous: in virtually EVERY single database in EVERY single organization exists an address,
a postal code, an administrative area or other asset tied to a location. The problem until now has been that the location data is seldom used in
a meaningful way along with ALL of the other business data. In most cases, location data exists in stove-pipe systems that do not at all speak
to the core business systems. Hence, it takes a special group or team of people (and more often than not a good pair of sneakers) to get
location data into the hands of the decision makers.
This pre-conference workshop is intended to present an overview of Oracle's location technologies and how they can be used in ANY IT environment
to facilitate integration and communication between IT and business intelligence applications and location data. Furthermore, in this workshop,
Justin will discuss how (and where) Oracle location technologies can (and do) serve as the foundation for GIS, CAD, and IT environments.
Outline
- Current Barriers to Integrating Location and Business Data and Processes
- A look at how most IT and location applications are implemented and why they stop short of providing us real, useful business information
- Real issues faced by real customers
- Overview of Oracle Location Technologies
- How, via Oracle's location technologies, barriers to integration can be overcome
- Overview of Oracle10g database Locator & Spatial
- Overview of Oracle Application Server MapViewer
- Technology overview of current and future features and directions
- Break
- Case studies and demonstrations
- Where and how Oracle location technologies are being used to bridge the gap between IT and location and solve the issues of real customers
- Summary, Q&A and close

Workshop 07 - TerraSeer |
True Location Intelligence is a function of Geographic Space and Time
The convergence of Location Technologies with Business Intelligence (BI) tools is an exciting trend, but two key aspects need further development if location intelligence is to deliver its full profit potential.
- Market conditions change, and new transactions occur every day, but we don't take advantage of the location and time-based nature of our data. To understand events and optimize results, decision makers must effectively examine "when" as well as "where".
- Location and time enabled BI tools must be also easily understood and configured so that business managers, not just analysts, can make rapid, accurate decisions.
Unfortunately, the technologies we use to visualize and analyze marketplace data are static. They do not deal with time in a fluid and graphic manner. The TerraSeer Space-Time Intelligence System™ (STIS™) is a revolutionary analysis platform recently developed to address this need.
This workshop will introduce participants to concepts of visualization and analysis of business events in geographic space and time, and provide hands-on experience in working with STIS technology to improve decision making. The course is aimed at business users interested in deriving the full potential from their location and time based data. GIS knowledge is not required.
Upon course completion, you will have
- The software you need to perform space-time data analysis. All workshop participants will receive a time-limited license of TerraSeer's Space-Time Intelligence System software to use during the class and take with you upon course conclusion.
- A workbook to review and recreate the course exercises at your own pace.
- A practical understanding of how to systematically carry out space-time visualization and analysis, using the latest in space-time software.
